Meet Shelley Bartel, LSCSW
Compassionate.
Honest.
Committed to helping you move forward.
For more than 36 years, I've had the privilege of helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life's challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and hope. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, facing relationship struggles, or simply know something needs to change, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive place where meaningful growth can begin.
I believe therapy should help you understand yourself more fully, strengthen your relationships, and equip you with practical tools that create lasting change.
What I Believe About Therapy
I believe that meaningful therapy is built on trust, honesty, and a genuine relationship. My role isn't to tell you how to live your life. It's to help you better understand yourself, recognize patterns that may no longer be serving you, and discover healthier ways of moving forward.
Therapy should be a place where...
-
✔ You feel safe enough to be completely yourself.
-
✔ You are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
-
✔ Honest conversations lead to meaningful growth.
-
✔ Practical tools help you create lasting change outside of our sessions.
-
✔ Hope begins to replace feeling stuck.
One question I often ask clients is:
What It's Like to Work With Me
Clients often tell me they appreciate both my compassion and my honesty. I strive to create an environment where you feel accepted exactly as you are while also being gently challenged to grow.
When we work together, you can expect:
-
A therapist who listens carefully and seeks to understand your unique story.
-
Honest, thoughtful feedback delivered with kindness and respect.
-
Practical strategies you can begin applying in your everyday life.
-
A collaborative approach where we work together toward your goals.
-
A space where you can be vulnerable without fear of judgment.
My hope is that every session leaves you with greater clarity, renewed perspective, and confidence that meaningful change is possible.
Experience you can trust.
For more than three decades, I've worked with individuals, couples, and families facing a wide variety of challenges, including:
-
Couples and relationship concerns
-
Blended family dynamics
-
Anxiety and depression
-
ADHD
-
Mood disorders
-
Addiction and recovery
-
Grief and loss
-
Life transitions and major life changes
Throughout my career, I've also developed trusted relationships with physicians, psychiatrists, attorneys, Employee Assistance Programs, and other professionals throughout the Kansas City community. When additional support is beneficial, I work collaboratively with those providers to help ensure you receive comprehensive, well-rounded care.
A Little More About Me
Outside of my counseling practice, I'm a wife, mother, and grandmother. Earlier in life, I had the opportunity to live in Indonesia, an experience that broadened my perspective and deepened my appreciation for the unique story every person brings into the counseling room.
Those experiences have shaped not only who I am as a person but also the way I care for my clients. I believe everyone deserves to feel heard, respected, and valued, regardless of where they are in life's journey.
